Yesterday the Central Valley Meat Company announced a recall of 89,720 pounds of ground beef that was intended for the National School Lunch Program. While the recalled product doesn’t pose any significant health risks, it may contain pieces of plastic.

The recalled product includes 40-lb. cases containing 10-lb. chubs of “Fine Ground Beef,” bear the establishment number “Est. 6063A” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection and was produced on July 23, 2013. Recalled product is also identified by case codes 6063A3204A, 6063A3204B or 6063A3204C and were shipped to distribution centers in Arkansas, Nebraska and North Carolina.

So far there have been no complaints of illness as a result of this recall, which is part of an on-going investigation by the FSIS.
